Most commodes function in their main role as a portable commode, but can also be fitted over bathroom toilets to act as an elevated toilet seat.

Bedside commodes are portable. The user must be able to, while unattended, stand, pivot and sit down safely. Commodes can also be adjusted for proper height. The height should be adjusted so the user’s feet are flat on the ground when seated.

Use caution while sitting on commode to make sure you are centered so not to tip sideways or forward.

  • Clean commode pails after each use with warm soapy water.
  • Commode pails may be filled with a cap of mouthwash or other non irritant to assist in odor control.
  • The commode pail is disposable and should be replaced anytime a crack is noticed.
